Who we are

Friends of the Bluffs are more than volunteers. We are outdoor enthusiasts, bluff trail hikers, trail runners, fall color followers, and stewards of Red Wing’s bluffs.

As a volunteer led non-profit, Friends of the Bluffs has worked since 2012 on sustainable improvement and management of the hiking trail system on the three beautiful and unique bluffs of Red Wing:
He Mni Can-Barn Bluff, Sorin’s Bluff/Memorial Park, and the Billings-Tomfohr Conservation Area,
locally referred to as the BTCA.

We work to improve understanding of the invasive species that endanger Red Wing’s bluffs. We share this knowledge with the community, our neighbors, donors, and friends.

What we do

Red Wing’s bluffs are a valuable, natural and cultural resource. Friends of the Bluffs is happy to play an important role in their management.

We Provide Trail Maintenance
& Improvements.

We Work on Habitat Conservation.

We Host Events that Educate & Promote Enjoyment of the Bluffs.

Join us! Bring your family & friends to an event and experience the great outdoors.

We connect outdoor enthusiasts, gather volunteers for workdays on the trails, and plan special events for the community to get outdoors and explore Red Wing’s natural beauty.

We host the annual Bluff Color Run/Hike every October during the peak of fall colors. Our 10th year event will be held on October 18, 2025 and features pathways through open pristine prairies, closed forest glades, and tight single track climbing a challenging sandstone ridge.

As a volunteer led 501c3 nonprofit, Friends of the Bluffs relies on the community to help us do the work.
